Federal Pacific and Zinsco panels: replace, don’t repair

Some panels are not worth saving. If you have a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok or a Zinsco panel — both common in NYC homes built or updated between the 1950s and 1980s — the recommendation is replacement, not repair.

A breaker that does not trip is not protecting the circuit at all — the wiring simply keeps heating.
