About AE Electric — Licensed NYC Electrician

AE Electric is a licensed, insured electrical contractor based in Midtown Manhattan, serving New York City residents and businesses since our founding. We built this company on one principle: when someone calls a licensed electrician in NYC, they deserve a fast response, honest pricing, and work that passes inspection every time.

Same-Day Electrical Service Across NYC

We specialize in same-day electrical service for both residential and commercial clients throughout all five boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Whether it’s a tripped panel in a Chelsea apartment, a wiring issue in a Queens restaurant, or an outlet upgrade in a Brooklyn brownstone, AE Electric can typically be there the same day you call.

Our Midtown Manhattan location puts us at the center of NYC — which means faster response times no matter where you are in the city.

Licensed, Permitted & NYC Code Compliant

Every job AE Electric performs is done to NYC Electrical Code standards and, when required, with proper permits filed with the NYC Department of Buildings. We don’t cut corners — unpermitted electrical work creates real liability for property owners in New York City and can block a sale, trigger violations, or void your insurance.

When AE Electric does the work, you get documentation you can show a buyer, a landlord, or an insurance company.

Residential & Commercial Expertise

NYC’s electrical infrastructure is unlike anywhere else in the country. Pre-war co-ops with knob-and-tube wiring, mid-century apartment buildings running on 60-amp service, modern commercial buildouts that need to meet strict DOB requirements — AE Electric has worked in all of it.

  • Manhattan apartments, co-ops, and condos
  • Brooklyn brownstones and townhouses
  • Queens and Bronx multi-family buildings
  • NYC retail, restaurant, and office spaces
  • Industrial and light commercial properties

Honest Pricing. No Surprises.

We provide upfront estimates before any work begins. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for before we pick up a tool. No hourly-rate guessing games, no hidden fees on your invoice.

NYC Electrical Safety: Key Statistics

Electrical failures are a leading cause of residential fires in New York City. Understanding the scope of the problem helps property owners and tenants make informed decisions about maintenance, inspections, and upgrades.

  • Electrical fires rank as the #2 cause of residential structure fires in New York State, behind only cooking fires (source: NFPA Fire Loss in the United States).
  • Faulty wiring and related equipment account for an estimated 28% of residential electrical fires nationwide, with older NYC pre-war buildings at higher risk due to knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring (source: NFPA).
  • NYC Local Law 97 (effective 2024) imposes carbon emissions caps on buildings over 25,000 sq ft, accelerating electrification upgrades and demand for panel capacity increases citywide.
  • Con Edison’s EV Make-Ready program provides incentives for multi-family buildings to install EV charging infrastructure, with rebates of up to $4,000 per charging port for eligible NYC properties.
  • Unpermitted electrical work in NYC can result in a Stop Work Order from the NYC Department of Buildings, fines starting at $1,000 per violation, and difficulty selling or refinancing the property.

The NYC Electrician Verification Checklist

Before hiring any electrician in New York City, verify these five things. This checklist applies to AE Electric and every other contractor — always confirm before work begins.

  1. License check — Search the contractor’s name on the NYC Department of Buildings eFiling portal (DOB NOW). License must show “Active” status. Electricians in NYC must hold a Master Electrician license issued by the NYC DOB.
  2. Insurance verification — Request a Certificate of Insurance showing general liability (minimum $1,000,000 per occurrence) and an active workers’ compensation certificate. Work performed without workers’ comp exposes the property owner to liability.
  3. Permit pull history — Confirm the contractor can and does pull NYC DOB permits for electrical work. Unpermitted work fails inspections, voids homeowner insurance, and blocks property sales.
  4. Con Edison authorization — For panel upgrades or service entrance work, the electrician must coordinate directly with Con Edison. Ask whether they handle this — unlicensed contractors cannot.
  5. Written flat-rate quote — NYC electricians who quote hourly without a cap can charge unpredictably. Request a written flat-rate quote before any work begins. AE Electric provides flat-rate quotes on every job before we pick up a tool.
