Con Edison or an electrician? How to tell

Answer this first, because calling the wrong one wastes time you may not have.

Call Con Edison if the outage covers your whole block or neighborhood, if the problem is at the overhead service line, the meter, or anything outside the building — or if you see a downed wire. Never approach a downed line.
