Con Edison or an electrician? How to tell

Answer this first, because calling the wrong one wastes time you may not have.

• Call Con Edison if the outage covers your whole block or neighborhood, if the problem is at the overhead service line, the meter, or anything outside the building — or if you see a downed wire. Never approach a downed line.
